Wreckless Accusations

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford is someone to watch for the Republican ticket in 2012. A solid Conservative who recently made the choice to reject a portion of the “stimulus” money, which makes him okay in my book! He has been a vocal critic of Obama’s recent stimulus plan.

He was quoted recently as saying, "What you're doing is buying into the notion that if we just print some more money that we don't have, send it to different states — we'll create jobs. If that's the case, why isn't Zimbabwe a rich place?... Why isn't Zimbabwe just an incredibly prosperous place. 'Cause they're printing money they don't have and sending it around to their different — I don't know the towns in Zimbabwe but that same logic is being applied there with little effect."

As many of you may know, Zimbabwe suffers from one of the highest levels of inflation in the world. It is the first country in the 21st century to hyper-inflate, and goods and services are now bartered due to the money being completely worthless. They are also under the dictatorship of President Mugabe.

This was an excellent analogy designed to paint a dire picture of our potential economic situation.

But, House Majority Whip, Jim Clyburn, a Democrat from South Carolina, saw things a bit differently.

Sounds like he's playing the race card," Clyburn said. "Why would he compare this country to Zimbabwe? Is he comparing this president to Mugabe? What is this about? It's very strange to me."

The congressman also called Sanford's remarks "beyond the pale," saying, "It is very, very troubling to me that he would do this, especially when the policies that we've been dealing with or trying to deal with were all compounded under the previous administration, which he supported."

When asked if this statement contains a racial undertone, he responded, "I'm sure he would not say that, but how did he get to Zimbabwe? What took the man to Zimbabwe? Someone should ask him if that's really the best comparison. ... How can he compare this country's situation to Zimbabwe?"

First of all, nothing in Sanford’s quote indicated an attempt to compare Obama to Mugabe. It was simply a shot at their economic situation. The only person playing the “race card” was Clyburn.

I think it is a sad day when a perfectly reasonable comparison by a United States governor is referred to as “racism”. It is an inaccurate, irresponsible statement, and really makes it difficult for those making the tough decisions to have an open and frank discussion. Besides, it completely kills the credibility of the accuser.

Whoever thought Obama’s election would usher in a “new era of politics” was sadly mistaken.

Funny how Clyburn accuses someone of playing the race card and then in the next breath actually plays the race card. Typical tactic to distract people from a legitimate point so they can continue to push some bs agenda that benefits the politicians and their firends and screws everyone else.

Yeah, a real slap in the face!

I'm wondering what happens to the $$ now?? Does it go back to the executive branch or is simply taken out of the stimulus budget?
