Culture of Corruption

Let me kill two birds with one stone here. The 2006 Mid-Term elections yielded a Democratic takeover of the House and Senate. Part of their success came in the wake of a string of Republican ethics scandals.

The Republicans were branded as crooks and liars in the new “Republican Culture of Corruption”. This was not entirely unwarranted. However, for the public to believe there is a only corruption on one side of the aisle explains why 2 years later, they voted for a man because of his smile and words. Anyway, the Democrats have been busy the past couple years with a disproportionate number of scandals of their own. I hate to even have to point out the blatant hypocrisy by the Democratic Party. It’s nothing new in politics and the observation grows stale.

My contention is that we must remain reticent of transferring more private sector power to a group of corrupt “Central Planners”. And this means Republicans, too!! When the government is soaking up 37% of the U.S. GDP in 2008 and 44% in 2009, we are already at the point of Socialism with no end in site.

We are within several percentage points of most Socialist European nations, which, incidentally, have overwhelmingly elected Conservative leaders in France, Germany, Italy, etc. They are retreating from Socialism while we are hitting it at full speed.

Where will it end? Obviously when we reach the point that Government is the only contributor to our GDP. In a fairly free economy, the government is meant to be a gentle regulator, and laws are enacted and enforced to regulate industry and prevent illegal activity. Who will watch the watchers once they are the producer AND the enforcer?

This is a complete breakdown of the checks and balances put in place by our founding fathers. With so much corruption running rampant in politics and "quid pro quo" an everyday occurrence, why are we to trust and believe that these people will act in our best interests when manipulating every aspect of our livelihood? Who will watch them and enforce the laws? I have no trust in an agenda or leftist ideology that attempts to diminish the soundness of checks and balances by taking away our arms and hijacking private industry. They appear to paving their way towards Totalitarianism, which flies in the face of "life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness".
