“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” - Thomas Jefferson
Part of Obama’s recently released budget plan will “jumpstart” the economy by increasing taxes on the rich, increasing the capital gains tax, and increasing spending on global warming initiatives……while at the same time, reducing our deficit (laughable).
Since the goal of a stimulus is to immediately ease a crashing economy, Obama has missed the mark with URGENT spending projects that will not even begin for another 1, 2, or 3 years. As well, the increase in taxes on the rich are said to have prolonged the Depression by several years. Yes, it provided tax dividends for government spending projects, but government spending programs have usually been counterproductive to economic growth. And, I’m not sure how Obama is going to incentivize hiring while increasing taxes on large and small businesses alike. I guess you can always go sweep floors at the new Eco-Golf Cart manufacturing facility! Good luck, Comrade!
And without delving too deep into the Global Warming debate (we’ll save that for another time), I would like to address one issue that I find most disturbing. During the 18 month “rush to war” in Iraq, we were presented with evidence of Weapons of Mass Destruction. This evidence appeared to be solid and credible….enough so that Obama’s Secretary of State and Vice President decided to vote in favor of war. We have later found that the evidence may have been rather flimsy, and Bush was vilified for manipulating a war resolution by suppressing any evidence that was contrary to the existence of WMD’s.
Today, we are witnessing this same “rush” with regards to the reduction of Global Warming. There are numerous scientists that dispel the myth of Global Warming and there is plenty of contradictory evidence. It is fascinating to watch the same group of people who railed Bush for only using evidence that was favorable to an invasion of Iraq, while at the same time, they seem to suppress and ignore all the research and opinion which minimizes or questions the immediate threat of Global Warming.
We are being asked to stifle our bruised economy under the delusion that we can save a rapidly warming…(or is it cooling??....) atmosphere.
Besides, unless China and India decide to join us in our efforts to reduce CO² (Why would they?? They enjoy growing their economies!), any efforts to curb these emissions on our end will be fruitless…I believe they will be “fruitless” anyway, but that is beside the point. By limiting industrial emissions through cap-and-trade, setting unrealistic standards, and raising taxes on CO² culprits, Obama will stifle business and make it very difficult to grow this economy….however, it will certainly help our government grow! Maybe they aren’t concerned about more businesses failing as a result of added government pressure. It may be just another excuse to Nationalize!!

Here we are as Americans, making all of this radical change, and our enemies are merely smiling....and reloading there Nuke supplies.

While we spend plenty of time complaining on here, let us enjoy one of the things that still makes this country great: our acceptance of flawed icons -
