"They (Americans) are possibly the dumbest people on the planet..." - Michael Moore
......Maybe he's correct....look what we did in November!
I was recently having a few drinks with some liberal friends who were ecstatic that the world, once again, loves us. In fact, they were confident the recent election of Obama has overturned any recent PR damage our country has suffered at the hands of George Bush. They even went on to inform me that that the citizens of the world have a much higher grasp of worldwide political issues than the lazy Americans. I found this all laughable and disturbing! First of all, these are people expressing extreme distaste regarding American citizens…..anti-American?? You Betcha!
But, most importantly, they are displaying naiveté regarding the impact of their savior, Obama. Human beings are fickle by nature. I believe most of the citizens of the world display an obvious jealousy when it comes to Americans and our higher standard of living. This is representative of the class warfare Obama exploits amongst our own citizens. Yes, we have been revered in the past, but the world media turned against us in the wake of Iraq, and the rest of the world obviously joined them in lockstep.
I was told that NEVER in the history of the United States has world sentiment been so against us. This is strange, considering the invasion of Vietnam yielded far more innocent casualties, and we went to war with significantly less provocation. I think it is safe to say that negative worldwide media coverage of America has trickled down to its loyal followers. My liberal friends complained of being treated rudely and with contempt when visiting other parts of the world as of late. I found this to be the most puzzling assertion. They claimed that Bush’s policies had turned the world against all US citizens, but aren’t these people more savvy than Americans when it comes to global events? Well, then surely they would be aware of Bush’s abysmal approval ratings during the last few years. Fewer than 25% felt he was doing a decent job. So, why are we being treated unfairly due to the actions of our president? I contend these anti-American attitudes by the rest of the world are spawned from either ignorance or bigotry.
Vladimir Putin invaded the country of Georgia this past year. Many innocent people were killed in this war of aggression. Would Americans treat Russian visitors rudely?? Probably not. China massacred huge numbers Tibetan monks this past year, however, we watched the Olympic opening ceremonies in awe. The Palestinians elected a terrorist regime as their government which funds the killing of innocent Israelis, but the US is currently in the process of sending 1 Billion in aid to rebuild the Gaza Strip. Most Americans are intelligent enough to distinguish between the actions of an elected president and the actions of ordinary citizens.
And let’s be perfectly clear. Obama chose a Vice President and a Secretary of State that each voted for the war in Iraq. We are not drawing down combat units in Iraq until August of 2010, and even then, we will be leaving 50,000 troops to continue their business. And although I applauded his decision to keep Gates as Defense Secretary, this is hardly signaling a “180” from Bush’s foreign policy. Obama recently sent an ADDITIONAL 17,000 troops to Afghanistan. A noble cause, but hardly a sign of “change”.
So, why the ecstasy from the rest of the world? Is it ignorance? Do they resent the strength of America and view Obama as a leader that will taper down our power with respect to the rest of the world? Europeans, by nature, subscribe to appeasement with regards to diplomacy. Just think of England’s Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, cutting a deal with Hitler….that went over well! Of course they would prefer we acted like saps toward tyranny and aggression…..if you ignore it, it will go way, right?
I resent the fact that Americans are labeled as intolerant, ignorant, and selfish. When was the last time you actually witnessed a fight in public due to racism or a bum on the side of the road that wasn’t getting a $1 each red light. We coexist in harmony, and any sort of tension is usually built up and fabricated by those in search of a story. After watching the opening ceremonies in China, and witnessing a completely closed off and homogenous culture, I couldn’t help but laugh thinking of the media portraying us as anything but a diverse and tolerant nation.
Oh, and based upon the posted pictures, it is obvious the wrong people still hate us, regardless of our “enlightened” choice for president.

Drinking with liberals? Sellout...
Rush Limbaugh
Yeah, they all hate us until they need our help, or, our help goes away...if it weren't for us there's a lot folks on the other side of the world that would be speaking German right now!!
I do agree with a liberals notion we are ignorant - we are. That's not to say that the rest of the worlds population is that much more informed, but we must keep in mind we are leaders of a free world after a mere couple hundred years....they are all merely sitting around, blogmaster, waiting for the homecoming queen to get into college and put on that freshman 15....which we are.
I think the fact that Americans can live in ignorance and don't feel the need to trouble themselves with world events is evidence we live in the greatest country in the world! We have provided a cushy little environment for ourselves...yes, the experiment of Capitalism HAS worked!
That being said, I can hardly defend those in America that would prefer to watch "The Bachelor" rather than read Tolstoy.
But, I feel America's disproportionate generosity when it comes to per capita worldwide charitable donations also shows that we are either more aware than other countries, more generous, or both.

By the way...way to use the "homecoming queen" analogy....! It is very true and solidifies the point that they are hoping for our demise. I suppose by becoming more "aware", Americans can find a way to stay on top?? Or will our "awareness" lead to more policies that weaken our country. Chew on that!
I'm with you the the fact we may live as ignorant is awesome...but at what point is that going stop this upward trend we've had over the last couple hundred years? I know that's a liberals argument to some extent, but to tackle both comments above....
both Ancient China, Greece, and Rome all fell from world power due to their own ignorance and bliss - go check history.
As for "awarness" if that includes our crappy media than that's not what anyone of us here consider top flight information to create true policy from...if that's the case you've been sold!
Intersting and becoming increasingly important:

I don't understand any of yalls fancy talk
Kyle
No, you are correct...the fall of the Roman Empire occured when the citizens were unaware of the affairs of the state and were unaware of the wars they were waging...I believe taxation also played a hand.
"Awareness" is a broad word and I usually use it in a sarcastic way.
I'm "aware" that we have people in our country that are suffering finacially, but I am even more aware that we cannot provide for them all while maintaining our status as an economic superpower...and yes, we are still a superpower.
And you raise a great point....no one in our country made themselves "aware" of Obama's what record and trusted him when he claimed he would rule as a moderate. Yes, this radical agenda unfolding before our eyes is proof that our voters are completely ignorant!
And I don't believe becoming less ignorant is a "liberal argument"...it is a bi-partisan argument!
I think it behooves the Democrats to keep a large part of our nation "ignorant" so they can exploit their plight for political gains and keep a firm voting base!
I find many liberal to be highly intelligent, but I believe their well-meaning agenda reflects a certain level of ignorance.
Despite all the efforts or our new President and this radical shift he's proposing, the way we are heading is going to counteract all of their efforts to some degree....
...the rich are about to get richer and poor poorer. It will be a greater division amongst classes here in the States -
Good!! Then Obama will have even more he can skim off the top to keep his "base" unmotivated and dependant!
yes sir...more excuse for class warfare. a strategy obama needs to remain in power.
good call on the class warfare.....I'm tired of seeing/hearing it and it's only going to get worse
Guess I should stop working hard then - what's the point, right? (of course I am checking a blog although its lunch time for me!!)
And so the handouts begin to trickle down to a "street level":

The problem isn't with this particular policy but all that is about to ensue....scary. Didn't Obama and the gov't just take a 40% stake in the Citi? Huh....
More handouts:

Hey: good initial idea but once again watch all that ensues -
State employees that have enough of a credential to make over $100K are typically undpaid according their prospective labor market.
When they ask somebody who has already taken a pay cut to serve the community to take another, they merely go find gainful employment elsewhere...why work harder and serve? We all have to give, but look at the bigger picture:

An all-time high for qoutes today. Guess the apocolypse is coming....so much for progress!!

Read on lol sad and funny
"They even went on to inform me that that the citizens of the world have a much higher grasp of worldwide political issues than the lazy Americans."
I WOULDN'T LAUGH AT IT UNTIL YOU HAVE TRAVELED INTO OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD....HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU.... BUT YOUR FRIENDS HAVE A POINT I CAN CONFIRM FROM EXPERIENCE
"I believe most of the citizens of the world display an obvious jealousy when it comes to Americans."
MASSIVE GENERALIZATION THAT I WONDER HOW IS SO OBVIOUS TO YOU....
"This is no different than those lower on the social ladder being resentful of the homecoming queen."
HOLLY SHIT I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU WOULD THINK THAT!!!!!! HOW DO YOU EXPECT ANYTHING TO BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH THAT SORT OF ETHNOCENTRICITY?!?!?!?! PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE!!!! WE ARE NO BETTER THAN ANY OTHER PERSON ON THE FACE OF THIS EARTH AND IT IS THAT EXACT SUPERIORITY COMPLEX THAT NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED!
"They claimed that Bush’s policies had turned the world against all US citizens, but aren’t these people more savvy than Americans when it comes to global events? Well, then surely they would be aware of Bush’s abysmal approval ratings during the last few years."
THAT IS A GOOD POINT AND I WAS NEVER TREATED RUDELY (ALTHOUGH I AM SURE THAT YOU AREN'T TALKING ABOUT ME). MY EXPERIENCE WAS THAT THEY WERE JUST EAGER TO KNOW MY OPINION....NOT TO REPRIMAND ME FOR BEING AMERICAN. HOWEVER, IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT STORY HAD MY RESPONSE BEEN DIFFERENT, IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN,
Well, then maybe I was wrong....if they liked you, then maybe they don't hate Americans!
I was basically trying to say that if we experience ANY sort of harsh treatment from others in the world, they are either bigoted, jealous, or ignorant. Just as we would be considered if treating a Russian rudely. Resentment is generally a result of insecurity....which may have been ignited even further by the war in Iraq and negative PR for America.
And I question why they would be SOOOO excited that an "outsider" was elected president when he has essentially maintained the EXACT same policies as Bush!!
"Would Americans treat Russian visitors rudely??"
UMMMM....YEA THEY WOULD, IF IT WERE IN OUR INTEREST. DON'T YOU GET IT?!?!?! WE DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BENEFIT OURSELVES. WHEN WE HAVE ENDED UP DOING NICE THINGS FOR OTHER COUNTRIES, I HAVE A HUNCH IT WAS A PURE COINCIDENCE BECAUSE WE WERE JUST TRYING TO GET OURS. WATCH "WAR ON DEMOCRACY", PLEASE.
"Obama recently sent an ADDITIONAL 17,000 troops to Afghanistan."
UMMMMM....AS FAR AS I KNOW, HIS INTENTION ALL ALONG WAS NOT NOT NOT TO PULL COMPLETELY OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST. DURING HIS CAMPAIGN HE EMPHASIZED THAT HE FELT THERE WAS A NEED TO FOCUS ON AFGHANISTAN OVER IRAQ. SO THIS NEW INSTALLMENT OF TROOPS IS HIM STICKING TO HIS PLAN.
"When was the last time you actually witnessed a fight in public due to racism."
UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT THINK THAT HATRED AND ETHNOCENTRICITY CONTAINED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS CONSTITUTES A PEACEFUL AND LOVING WORLD.
Americans have the highest per capita income in the world and one of the highest standards of living. To think jealousy is not a contributor to anti-American attitides is asinine.
Jealousy and class envy are the two largest drivers to justify Obama's economic plans.
"Can you imagine how easy it would be for a rogue police officer to take advantage of his position of power even further? Very Orwellian."
OK WINSTON
All I hear from the left is how unfair, dishonest, corrupt, and racist police officers are....I personally think we need to keep the executive branch in check. But, since the left seeks to control very aspect of our lives, it would behoove them to keep rebellion down to a minimum by taking away our only defense. Paranoid? Yes. History, however, will tell us otherwise!
