I was alerted by a friend regarding the recent story on the Homeland Security “fusion centers” popping up across the country. One in particular, the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC), recently published a report in light of a swell of “militia activity”. Due to the current economic climate and fear of gun regulation, these “fusion” or intelligence centers are told to be on the lookout for subversive activities.
Unfortunately, the warning signs of “militia” activity can be easily confused with the actions of ordinary and FREE citizens, which will inevitably cause problems.
The MIAC warns law enforcement to be on the lookout for those displaying bumper stickers or paraphernalia of “3rd party candidates”, including Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, and Ron Paul.
As well, anyone in possession of the popular anti-income tax movie, “America: Freedom to Fascism”.
At first, I justified this as necessary for law enforcement, since most dangerous militia members probably do have affiliation with a 3rd party candidate. I viewed this as the same as school officials being on alert for kids wearing black trench coats after the Columbine Massacre.
But, then I started thinking of what a dangerous precedent this was setting for those that must now live in fear of displaying support for legitimate 3rd party candidates. I believe this will not only waste the efforts of law enforcement by broadening their focus, it will also discourage support of fringe candidates and possibly suppress new ideas from reaching the general public.
America looks towards a 2-party system to solve their problems, and I think we have realized that this has led to vast corruption and has enabled the politicians, since they know America has few alternatives. We should welcome the discussion brought on by fringe candidates such as Ron Paul, who have the interests of Americans in mind, rather than an obligation to the same large donors as their competitors.
Although I do not necessarily believe the report by the MIAC is a concerted effort to stifle political discussion, it may have that effect. And although their report may be valid, it can lead to an unnecessary witch hunt of law abiding citizens, as well as plenty of lawsuits!
I wonder if Obama’s new “volunteers” will be briefed with this report!!

Fantastic find, blogmaster. It's important for all of us to continue to read between the lines with all of the "new policy" being put into place (whatever that really means).
The Dems have done a great job of putting so much to the forefront right now, these "little things" as they call them when are country is in fiscal trouble are going to add up at some point....
..where we all turn around here in the near future, at some point, and we've lost the basic freedoms and rights that founded this country - some of the same reasons we left mother England and colonized such a great land.
No matter a country, organization, team or anything that has so many components and a true vision, it's important we as Americans don't lose sight of what and who we are - no?
The greater question is a counrty where we don't have the right to speak as we wish, bare arms and where free thought and innovation is spurned, well - what will we be about then as a country?
I'm afraid this blogger doesn't share the same vision as many of our current leaders; as a Patriot I try my best to hop on this bandwagon for better or for worse, but with crap like this coming to light every day, why even bother?
