Party of Appeasement

Last week we witnessed an interesting power shift in Israel. Benjamin Natanyahu, a right wing icon in Israel, was placed into power as Prime Minister. This has American liberals in a tizzy, since Netanyahu has indicated he will come down hard upon Hamas and will be unwilling to allow Obama to influence many of his decisions regarding military action.

A couple thousand years ago, the Jews were driven from present day Israel and pushed into Eastern Europe and Russia. Hundreds of years of persecution provoked a movement called Zionism, which is the idea that all Jews will one day reclaim their lost land of Israel. They began to trickle back in to buy up land from the Palestians and settle the area. This started in the early 1900’s and gained momentum after the Holocaust. Thousands resettled the land, and soon after, many settlements began to withstand attacks from Palestian raids. “Palestine” was under British control at the time. The British soon terminated their mandate of control and the UN drew up boundaries for a 2 state compromise between the Jews and the Arabs. However, the Jews were soon at war with Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. This was an attempt by the Arabs to take over the entire region and kick out the Jews. “Israel” defended itself against 5 countries and won the war. The UN gave the land to the Jews and modern day Israel was born. Since many Palestians did not have land, they attempted to migrate to other Arab countries but were turned away. The fact that these countries rejected their fellow Muslim refugees shows how the cause of Palestine is simply a pawn to justify hatred of the West by much of the Muslim world. The UN set up the Gaza Strip and The West Bank as strictly Palestinian settlements within Israel. Well, the Palestinians did not take this lying down and have been launching terrorist and guerilla attacks against Israel to this day. Israel is being provoked day to day and they are constantly told to back off and restrain themselves by the rest of the world. This would be no different than Mexican Americans blowing up buses in San Antonio in order to reclaim land that was once theirs. I would hope world opinion would be in favor of us defending ourselves...but not likely. I'm sure the left would be cheering them on!!

Those involved in the peace process are discussing the possibility of a two state resolution, where Palestine will now be its own country. That sounds like a good idea in theory, but many Radical Palestinians have vowed that they want ALL of Israel and will attack until they maintain control of all of the land. There will be no satisfaction with a two state resolution.

Many on the left feel that Israel is the culprit and subscribe to the idea that they are power hungry and unfair to the Palestinians. I have always been puzzled by the left’s rush to defend Palestine and vilify Israel. We have already watched the left attack every aspect of traditional American life through attacks on Christianity and overzealous worshipping in the US. Now why would they rush to defend a culture that is religious to the point of committing murder and extremely intolerant of any other ways of life?? Why would they rush to defend a people that preach ignorance and hate in their schools, treat their women like dogs, and condone the killing of innocent Israeli citizens through terrorist attacks?

Consider the argument made by some on the left in 2001........that we deserved what we got on 9/11, since we had been meddling in foreign affairs. We were attacked because we elected a “war monger” president, George Bush. Well, if this claim is valid, then there should be NO sympathy for a Palestinian people that are bombed by Israel after voting a terrorist regime, Hamas, into power.……right??

Well, that may have been an extreme argument, since it was essentially made to show the absurdity of the premise and that innocent people do not deserve to die. But, what are the motives behind the left’s never-ending support of Palestine? Is this simply a case of cheering on the “underdog”, or is it just another example of the left’s ignorant practice of appeasement? They are concerned that an aggressive Israel under Netanyahu will stir up more hatred of the West, which will lead to more attacks on American soil. Well, if that’s the case (and it probably is not), Obama will simply have to stand tough on terrorism and defend our soil and people at all costs. Obama’s choice of Leon Panetta (with absolutely no intelligence background) to head the CIA shows he is off to a good start….ha!

They are concerned strong actions by Israel will ruin a chance for a peace process. When extremists attach bombs to their children and send them into crowded Israeli buses, while at the same time, vowing they will NEVER cease to attack until all of Israel is under Palestinian control……..where is the leverage in negotiation? A peaceful resolve is a pipe dream.

Israel rose out of the sand through an intriguing history to become the only industrialized and truly modern nation in the Middle East. They are a tolerant people who allow Muslims and Christians to coexist peacefully within its borders. Their embrace of education and technology makes for a great partner for the rest of the civilized world. Why the left would put support policies that would weaken Israel is beyond me. Just as strange as their attempt to tie OUR hands behind our backs during our attempts to defend the U.S.A. History has shown that appeasement will rarely work, and it will be interesting to watch Israel over the coming months. Something tells me we are about to witness the rebirth (once again) of Israel.
